All The Bright Places

All The Bright Places, many of you may know this story based on the film however, the book is so different and tells the story in such an incredible way. What I love about this book is the layout of it. It is almost a diary entry of both the main characters Violet and Finch this allows us as readers to see both their point of views and get a different perspective of what is happening. It also allows us to connect more with the characters as we are reading about each of their thoughts therefore we are able to get a better understanding of how they each think and feel.

Theodore Finch is a troubled character and through out the book he has different versions of himself, similar to Margo from Paper Towns who everyone has different types and versions of except Finch is creating these versions himself. We see many types of Finch. There is '80's' Finch, 'Bad ass' Finch , 'Crazy' Finch and many other versions. Perhaps this is Finch trying to find himself and discover who he is or maybe it is his way of hiding the real Finch to the world. What do you think? Do you think the different types of Finch we see are him trying to discover who he is or do you think it is his way of hiding who he is to the world?

Now before you continue on I must warn you, there is a major spoiler ahead...there is something ironic about the fact that Finch has such a strong desire to help Violet find the beauty of life again after the death of her sister yet as he does this, he loses himself and he soon no longer can see the beauty in life. The most heartbreaking part of Finch's death is the fact that Violet was finally starting to see the joy in life yet the one person who gave her joy and showed her the beauty of life is no longer with her. I do love that the book does not end when Finch's life ends. It continues on and shows us how Violet is living her life and trying to keep Finch alive in her memory which shows us that no matter how far someone may go they can still be with us if we keep them in our hearts and memory.

Sometimes in life we are faced with situations that are out of our control yet we still blame ourselves. Violet also does this. She blames herself for the death of her sister and believes she was not good enough for Finch and questions why she could not save him. When I was reading this it broke my heart and I felt so much sympathy and heartache for Violet she lost her sister and boyfriend in just short of year which also got me thinking about how much life can change in the blink of an eye, in such a short period of time anything can be taken away from us and so we need to live our life to the full, enjoy the little things and appreciate our loved ones we have around us as well as appreciate our loved ones who we no longer have with us, keep them in our hearts and when missing them gets tough we try to think how lucky we were to have such an amazing person in our life that makes saying goodbye so hard.

That last paragraph got a tad heavy and may have pulled a heart string and so I am going to end this post as I always do with one of my favorite quotes from the book 'The thing I realise is, that it is not what you take, it is what you leave'.
