Some Kind Of Wonderful

When the love of her life decides that she is not the one, can Lizzy rediscover who she was before him?

Lizzy and Ian seem like the perfect couple except one thing...it has been ten years and no talk of a ring or marriage. I don't think words can describe the frustration I felt when Ian played it off that he was going to propose one night but instead he called it quits. In my opinion he had massive commitment issues but I will leave that for you to decide if you ever get the chance to read this witty book. Although it is about a breakup and about finding who you are it is also hilarious and will have you in fits of laughter!!!

When reading, I could not help but think about how much our own expectations can disappoint us. It is almost like we are asking to be hurt and to feel disappointment due to our high expectations. Lizzy had her hopes up into thinking she was going to have a ring on her finger in Dubai but instead she left Dubai single and heartbroken. Have you ever thought about something you were so excited for but because of your high expectations it was no where near as exciting as you thought it would be? Well times that disappointment by ten and you will get a feel to how Lizzy felt when her beloved Ian decided to call it quits.

As a way of healing and adapting to a new normal. A normal without Ian after spending ten years with him Lizzy decides to rediscover who she was before him and rediscover herself without him. She writes a list of who she was at 18 when she first met him and then a list of who she is now at 28 and there is a major antithesis between the two which is almost sad to know that she was so hung up on Ian she let him change her without her noticing. She became a new version of herself but this version of herself was made up by Ian. Not Lizzy. Reading her struggle to find herself was difficult yet so worth it because eventually she does find herself and starts a new adventure which really goes to show how there really is always light at the end of the tunnel and that everything really does happen for a reason.

Moving on from Lizzy I can't help but mention her parents relationship. It blew my mind that her parents are divorced but the best of friends! Although the story focuses on Lizzy finding herself she also learns about her dads journey of finding out who he is. I don't want to give away a massive spoiler however Lizzy learns that her dad isn't who she thought he was and that he had been carrying a massive secret and when he tells Lizzy it was one of the most heart warming parts of the book, their father daughter relationship really is unbreakable as is their whole family bond. Her parents friendship really showed that no matter how far two people may drift away from each other, no matter what they go through with each other if they are meant to be in each others lives as friends or lovers etc they will come back. What is meant to be will be.

If you are looking for another feel good, pick me up book I would definitely recommend reading Some Kind Of Wonderful and as usual I am going to leave you with a quote from the novel 'everyone who comes into our lives leaves their mark. That's how we grow mature and evolve as humans and there's nothing wrong with that.'
